Coming Soon is a forward-looking series about new turn-based games, released monthly. It also coincides with my favourite day of the week: #TurnBasedThursdays, a weekly community list of game devs showcasing their turn-based games. Give them a follow on BlueSky and keep up-to-date on new turn-based games alongside my LFG: Learning from Games and Science Shorts series!
Hello JOMT Reader!
I love following game devs showcasing their work and getting excited for the games to come. Today’s edition of #TurnBasedThursdays features even more creature collecting games that you can add to your wishlist, on top of the one coming out next month (featured below). Give these games a look if you are looking to add to your library!
Voidsayer
🔗 Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2754370/Voidsayer/
📅 Release date: June 2, 2025
🖥️ Developer: Pavel Auseitasau
📢 Publisher: indie.io
🕹️ Platform: PC (Steam)
🎮️ The game
If you like the idea of Pokemon (collecting creatures that battle each other) but found it too cheery and colourful and not enough Lovecraftian tentacles, Voidsayer is the game for you. You'll collect creatures and battle against even weirder creatures as you discover what happened to the world.
🎯 Who it's for
You love creature collectors with a Lovecraftian twist
You like some light resource management and base-improvement mechanics
You are put off by the complexities of tactics (XCOM) or real-time event games (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33)
‼️ What I'm excited about
I'm excited to see all the other weird creatures in this game. It's got just enough creatures (100, according to the developer) to be interesting but not overwhelming. My starting creature was a cthulu-like creature with tentacles -- in the short demo, I managed to fight carnivorous plants and an owlbear as well. I do wish there was an open-world aspect as I'd love to explore the environment that turned these creatures into these Lovecraftian horrors.
Boogey Hunters
🔗 Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3301530/Boogey_Hunters/
📅 Release date: June 7, 2025
🖥️ Developer: Keep The Engine Games
📢 Publisher: Rogue Duck Interactive
🕹️ Platform: Steam (PC/Mac)
🎮️ The game
Save the world as quickly as possible from boogeys, mythical creatures from different folklores that are terrorizing citizens. You play as a one of four hunters assigned to hunt down boogeys who have taken residence in different countries across the world. You'll need to spend precious time to travel to each location and hunt for information (or not) before challenging each boogey.
🎯 Who it's for
You love deckbuilding games
You have an insatiable need to speed-run games
You enjoy learning about what scares different cultures
‼️ What I'm excited about
I love the XCOM-style save the world mechanics combined with creatures from folklores from around the world. There isn't a countdown timer that you have to work towards but the goal is to save the world as fast as you can, setting up a nice meta game where you can compete among friends or even on a global leaderboard.
The deck-building and combat system is a refreshing take, trading cards for bullets and action/energy points for bullet slots. It helps simplify the amount of information on screen and makes combat feel a lot more streamlined. All of this combines for a highly replayable game!
Shuffle Tactics
🔗 Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2186580/Shuffle_Tactics/
📅 Release date: June 24, 2025
🖥️ Developer: Club Sandwich
📢 Publisher: The Arcade Crew
🕹️ Platform: PC (Steam)
🎮️ The game
You are a dog-headed knight, charged with defending the Kingdom of Asteria from a curse, using your deckbuilding strategy and tactical prowess. You'll move and use attack cards to clear the small battle maps of enemies en route to defeating the evil King Ogma. You'll have help along the way in the form of sidekicks and powerful attack cards.
🎯 Who it's for
You love Slay the Spire
You love tactics games (like XCOM)
You adore pixel graphics
‼️ What I'm excited about
I'm excited for this twist to the traditional deckbuilding formula. It combines the accessibility of a deckbuilder with the more strategic parts of a tactics game.
The “luck of the draw” system that plagues most deckbuilders is offset by the tactical choices you can make, so you won't ever feel like you lost because of bad draws. If I get dealt a bad hand, I have the option of a tactical retreat. It’s a small change with a big impact on empowering players to make decisions.

I love the fact that Bluesky has that growing Turn-Based hashtag and collection of developers sharing their hard work. I am surprised how often you have new games here about that specific genre until I see the community for it and huge it is!
