Who is InGameScientist?

I’m a big gaming and science nerd, writing at the intersection of video games and science. Games have their use beyond entertainment, and I am passionate about bringing that world closer to you.

I can cut through the technical jargon in scientific articles using the Simplify Science™ ability I gained during my PhD studies. I also picked up Communicate Clearly™ and Think Critically™ skills throughout my career, which will help me tell you about some of the innovative ways scientists are thinking about using games in research and healthcare.

I’ve acquired the Play—>Think—>Learn™ skill through my life-long gaming passion, thinking about the ways video games can be used beyond entertainment. My main interest is in turn-based strategy and tactics games, but I’ve played in many other genres, especially as game genre boundaries start to blur.

In a nutshell, I am…

STRENGTH: 9
DEXTERITY: 11
CONSTITUTION: 9
INTELLIGENCE: 16
WISDOM: 18
CHARISMA: ??? (depends if I’ve gotten you to sign up!)

What you can expect

You’ll get one email per week, on Wednesdays, about a scientific study using video games or my impressions about a game that I’ve played.

The LFG: Learning from Games section is where you’ll find the discussions about video games being used in scientific research. I’ll provide you with a brief overview of the question(s) the researchers were asking and how they answered those questions.

The Impressions section is where you’ll find my views of games that I’ve played. I am trying to talk about them a little differently, considering things like barriers to playing and overall play session length.

In the Coming Soon section, you’ll find round-ups and lists of new games that I’m excited about. Finally, in Content Creation, I’ll periodically share resources that might be helpful to you.

You might also see some Notes from me several times a week, talking more freely about gaming and science or responding to news, especially as it relates to games and science.

What I will strive to provide is an objective, balanced perspective that I hope will help you form your own opinions.

Why subscribe?

Because you’ll get access to information that might have been locked away behind technical jargon, for free. If you have any questions or want to start a conversation, email me at dr.kutsu@outlook.com!
